History
North East Outreach and Support Services, initially named the Melfort Sexual Assault Centre, was born in 1984 due to the efforts of several concerned community members in response to the ned for support services for victims of sexual assault. Soon, NEOSS began reciving many calls from support from victims so domestic violence, so the agency broadened its focus and expanded its programs to meet thet needs of victims of all forms of interpersonal violence.
North East Outreach and Support Services is a community-based, non-profit registered charity. Community services are delivered with funds obtained from government grants, fundraising, and community donations. The agency is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and managed by an Executive Director.
Mission
The mission of North East Outreach and Support Services is to nurture personal growth and enhance wellness in people's lives and communities by providing a range of support services to north east Saskatchewan. We strive to achieve our mission with a philosophy of respect, empowerment, personal responsibility, and equality among people. We are here to provide support for positive change, toward making healthy life choices.
Associations
North East Outreach and Support Services is a member agency of the Provincial Association of Transition Houses and Services (PATHS), a non-provit provincial association of agencies, whose membership consists of shelters, second stage housing and related service agencies. PATHS vision is to create a society free of violence against women and their children.
NEOSS is also a member agency of Saskatchewan Association of Sexual Assault Services (SASS), a non-profit provincial association of sexual assault service agencies whose vision is to eliminate sexualized violence in society by providing a unified voice on sexual violence issues, strenthening sexual violence services and influencing social change.
NEOSS is also a member agency of STOPS to Violence. STOPS is a provincial organiztion dedicated to supporting partnerships with individuals, communities, organizations, and governments. Through partnership, STOPS encourages the use of ides, environments and opportunities to address issues of personal and relationship violence. STOPS has created the Community Connections Plan. The goal of a community connections plan is to create safety, respect and a coordinated immediate response to any victim of interpersonal violence and abuse.
